Services/Fees

Story Circle Network-Editorial Service is pleased to offer six options:

  • Level 1—Copyediting (aka line editing): Good copyediting is all about mechanics—the nuts and bolts of manuscript presentation. Our copy editors will focus on spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice, and syntax—their intent being your manuscript's overall readability. SCN copy editors will also make light structural changes and/or recommendations.

Fee: $10/pg.* for members of SCN ($40 fee added for non-members)

  • Level 2—Conceptual Editing (aka developmental or content editing): While your conceptual editor will focus on your manuscript's overall effectiveness (the big picture), she will evaluate your document at several levels: book, chapter, paragraph, even the sentence. Among the questions the conceptual editor must ask are: Does the story/narrative flow? Is the content appropriate to the genre? Is this what readers will expect? Works of fiction are evaluated for plot, pacing, character development, dialogue and point of view. Nonfiction is evaluated for effectiveness, comprehensiveness, contribution to the literature on the subject, clarity, reader appeal, and usefulness. The editor will recommend elements of organization and content design, including the use of illustrations, tables, boxes, and sidebars.

Fee: $14/pg.* for members of SCN ($40 fee added for non-members)

  • Level 3—Comprehensive Editing: This editing process requires two passes. First, the editor will perform a conceptual edit—evaluating your book for its organization, effectiveness and appropriateness (to the genre and for the audience). Light copyediting is usually performed at this time as well. Once the author makes necessary revisions/changes, the editor will line edit the manuscript for spelling, grammar, punctuation and general readability.

Fee: $20/pg.* for members of SCN ($40 fee added for non-members)

  • Proofreading: The eagle-eyed proofreader is your last line of defense before your writing faces the sharp criticism of agents, publishers, contest judges or readers. Your editor will have a good eye to catch that spelling mistake that everyone else's eye glossed over, the errant comma or a pesky grammatical faux pas.

Fee: $1.75/pg.* for members of SCN ($40 fee added for non-members)
